Pattern CD FAQ

Q. Is there any software on the CD's?

A: No. This is a pattern book on CD. It contains images of full size patterns in .jpg, .tif & .eye (Glass Eye 2000) formats for use with image software already installed on most PCs and MacIntosh computers.

We also include full-color glass images for each design, that you can print on an 8.5" x 11" page as a color guide.

Links are provided on each CD in an HTML file (ReadMe1st.html) to websites providing free software should it be needed.

Q. What system and software requirements are needed?

A: Our Pattern CDs should work on any computer that has a CD-Rom drive, using any software that views, resizes and prints pictures.

Q. How do I use the CD?

A: Just put the CD into the CD-Rom drive and open any image management program i.e. Windows "Paint" (included with Windows), Rapid Resizer, Glass Eye 2000 (links to free demos included in our "Welcome.html/ReadMe1st.html" file ) or any MacIntosh drawing/image software included on the computer.

Be sure to read the "Welcome.html/ReadMe1st.html" file included on the disk for full directions on how to use the disk.

There are four separate "folders" on each disk that include:

  1. Color .jpg (glass image of each pattern in full color)
  2. B&W .jpg (full size b&w patterns)
  3. B&W .tif (full size b&w patterns)
  4. .eye Files (fully operating Glass Eye 2000 files for purchased or demo versions)

Q. When I find a pattern that I like, can I size it just using the CD or do I have to use special software?

A: Please see the first answer above. There is no software on the CD. Just use any software that is for viewing and printing pictures, which comes already included on computers.

Q. Are the patterns easy to resize?

A: Yes, absolutely. This is the beauty of computers and patterns on CD. Just open your choice of program to view the pattern images. Use your menu/taskbar buttons (find the one that shows size) to look at the pre-set minimum recommended size we have already set for the pattern. You can print at that size, or resize by simply typing in your new dimensions.

Q. Can I print full-size stained glass patterns directly from the CD?

A: Yes. The patterns will print full-size over a series of 8.5" x 11"(or A10/metric) pages if you have a standard size printer, and you can just tape the pages together and start laying out your glass.

Q. The CD says "Image files only . . ." Does that mean it will not print out a black and white pattern of the designs?

A: The CD contains images of full size B&W patterns in .jpg, .tif & .eye (Glass Eye 2000) formats, which you most definitely CAN print out in the preset size, or resize and reshape as you wish.

Q. I can't open the files. The message that comes up is from Adobe Download Manager. It says "The download cannot continue. Error parsing voucher." What does that mean? Is there anything I can do to change it?

A: You are probably getting this message because you are trying to open the files in a program that only works with the .pdf format. Adobe Acrobat cannot open these files because they are in 3 other file formats, .jpg, .tif, and .eye, not in .pdf. Only Adobe ILLUSTRATOR (the one you pay for) can open our files.

Q. My CD is completely blank. There's nothing on it. What should I do?

A: Please reload the CD and wait longer for the CD to spin up. These CD's have 60+ to 130+ full-size patterns on them, a very large amount of data, which may take a while to load on your computer. Then open the drive containing the disk and you WILL find the folders of files.

Q. Are the patterns on the CD in black and white and/or color?

A: Yes, we include full size b&w patterns in 3 formats. We also include a folder of color .jpg files showing the glass image of each pattern in full color that you can print out on one regular sheet of paper as a guide.

Q. Are the patterns numbered, and do they include color suggestions?

A: You can view the numbered patterns in only one format we offer - the .eye format. If you use the Glass Eye full or demo program, you will be able to turn on the pattern numbering (Text Menu/Piece Labeling feature), as well as the colors we used, and a glass recipe.

Q. Do the CDs you offer contain the pictures/patterns shown on your website?

A: Yes. If you click on the cover of any of our CDs, you will see thumbnail images of most of the patterns that are included on each CD. We usually include a few extra "surprise" patterns as well.

Q. What is your copyright restriction on the patterns?

A: Our copyright is the most generous in the industry. Paned Expressions Studios allows the purchaser of the disk to make AND sell one completed project of every pattern on the CD*.

The purchaser of the CD will need written permission to sell more than one of a project*. We do not allow giving away, trading, emailing, uploading or selling any of the patterns from the CDs unless special permission is given by our studio.

*Note: Bullwinkle & Friends completed panels may not be sold due to licensing restrictions. Completed panels may be given as gifts only.

Q. Can I post pictures of your designs/my finished panels anywhere I want?

A: You are welcome to post pictures of your finished work only. We are glad to support your efforts. We do ask your kindness in supporting our livelihood by giving Paned Expressions credit for the design, and showing our copyright next to your "Designed by Paned Expressions Studios/Fabricated by YOU".

UNDERSTANDABLY, we do not allow giving away, trading, emailing, uploading, posting or selling any of the PATTERNS from the CDs unless special permission is given by our studio. This has ALWAYS been contrary to copyright laws and applies to the internet as well.

Q. Can the patterns I buy be used to produce products for sale? I've just started in stained glass and was wondering if I could sell an item that I make from one of your patterns? I'm semi-retired and would like to try to sell to the shops in this area. Would I violate the copyright?

A: Paned Expressions Studios allows the purchaser of the disk to make AND sell one completed project of every pattern on the CD*, which is in the copyright statement on each CD. The purchaser of the CD will need our written permission to sell more than one of a project*.

*Note: Bullwinkle & Friends completed panels may not be sold due to licensing restrictions. Completed panels may be given as gifts only.

Q. I have read your copyright notice and would like to use your designs interpreted in fabric / wood / applique / paint, etc. to sell to clients?

A: Paned Expressions Studios allows the purchaser of the disk to make AND sell one completed project in any medium of every pattern on the CD* without additional permission needed from us in writing. The purchaser of the CD will need written permission to sell more than one of a particular project, using the same design*.

*Note: Bullwinkle & Friends completed panels may not be sold due to licensing restrictions. Completed panels may be given as gifts only.

Q. I teach classes and would like to know if it would be okay to use your copyrighted patterns in my classes. I do not "share" my patterns. The students receive the pattern and must return it after class so I would not be giving any of them away.

A: Unfortunately, we cannot give you permission to use our patterns on CD for your classes, as this violates our copyright. Each student should be encouraged to purchase their own CD if they want to use our CD patterns. However, you and your students are welcome to use any of the free patterns we post monthly on our site.

Q. Do you offer a catalog of your patterns?

A: Yes, you can see our whole library of Pattern CDs on our website, including thumbnails of most of the thousands of designs, by clicking on the cover image of each CD.

Q. Where can we find your stained glass patterns?

A: You can find our library of patterns on our website. You may also find our Pattern CDs for sale by select distributors and retailers worldwide.

Q. Do you sell the individual patterns/paper patterns? The disk is wonderful, but I don't need all the patterns at this time.

A: Yes, unlike printed pattern books, you can buy individual patterns. The cost for us to print a pattern for you is a minimum of $18.95 (depending on size) + shipping.

We provide two full-size patterns, color-coded and numbered, a single sheet full-color image, and a glass recipe for that price, just as we do for our custom patterns. Most people prefer to buy our CD's and print the patterns themselves, as each pattern on a CD costs less than 50 cents.

Q. I have seen several patterns I like on the different CDs. Is it possible to get the individual patterns, or for you to make me a custom CD?

A: Please see previous question regarding individual patterns. Unfortunately, we are unable to create a custom CD for you. Each of our CDs is published much like any book or music CD, with its' own unique ISBN number, as listed in "Books in Print", and the content cannot be altered. Creating single custom CD is therefore time consuming and not possible (we like to get some work done in the studio too!).

Q. Who do I make the check/money order payable to?

A: Please make your check or money order payable to: Paned Expressions Studios, Inc.

If you are outside of the U.S., please be sure to send payment denominated in U.S dollars only.

Q. I live in Greece / Russia / Africa / Japan, etc., can I buy your CDs?

A: Yes, absolutely. We ship our CDs anywhere in the world.

Q. Do you offer discounts for multiple CD purchases?

A: We currently offer free shipping worldwide when you buy 3+ CDs. Your free shipping will appear automatically in your shopping cart at the time of your order of 3 or more CDs. We also offer special pricing when you purchase a full set of CD's. Click here to see the pricing.

Q. How much does it cost for 10 CDs?

A: Each CD costs $39.00, so 10 will cost $390.00. We also offer special pricing when you purchase a full set of CD's. Click here to see the pricing.

Q. Will you give me a discount if I order ALL of your CD patterns?

A: We do offer special pricing on A FULL SET. Just go to the Complete Pattern CD Library Set Page to see the pricing.

Q. When do I pay you, when I place the order or upon delivery?

A: Please pay when you place your order. We are not able to offer payment on delivery.

Q. What information do I need to give you when I order?

A: We need your name, billing / shipping address, telephone, email address, item numbers and payment information. We also like to know how you heard of us, and any ideas / requests you may have for upcoming pattern CDs.

Q. Is it safe to give you credit card information when I order?

A: Our shopping cart is as secure and as pilferproof as possible. We do not carry our own shopping cart and have hired a professional cart server in order to have the most secure cart possible.

Q. I would like to buy a couple of your CDs and pay by check. I live in France / Greece / Finland / China, etc. How can I pay by check?
